Using this method to replace an old image has a lot of advantages over uploading a completely new image. It means that you can see all versions of an image in one place, and it’s very easy to revert to an old version if needed. It means that all links on the wiki and elsewhere will keep on working. It reduces clutter in the wiki’s «Photo» section because there’s only one entry for each image.
Most importantly, it makes it impossible for anyone to accidentally use an old version of an image. Someone who’s editing a page and needs to choose an image will find it hard to pick the right one, and if more than one similar image is used across the site, then all of them have to be updated when Habitica changes. But if new versions of images are uploaded to «replace» old images rather than uploaded as new images, this issue disappears.
